Abstract Submission Overview

The ASLM 2026 Biennial Conference invites researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and partners to submit abstracts aligned with the conference theme:
Integrated Diagnostics for Health Security: Investing in Sustainable Impact
The conference provides a scientific platform to showcase evidence, innovations, policies, and practices that strengthen diagnostic systems and improve public health outcomes across Africa.

Submissions must align with one primary thematic track selected during submission.

Track 1 — Integrated Diagnostics for Health Security & One Health Preparedness

Focuses on integrated laboratory systems as enablers for clinical and public health decision‑making, preparedness, and cross‑sector coordination.
Scope areas include:
  • Laboratory system governance and network optimization
  • Diagnostic innovation across the ecosystem
  • Laboratory–clinical/public health interface
  • Biosafety and biosecurity implementation
  • Quality management, accreditation, and EQA
  • One Health implementation and cross‑border coordination
  • Impact of laboratory strengthening on health outcomes

Track 2 — Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Diagnostics & Surveillance

Strengthening diagnostic systems for AMR detection, surveillance, and response.
Scope areas include:
  • AMR surveillance systems across One Health sectors
  • Quality assurance and standardization of AMR diagnostics
  • Workforce development for AMR diagnostics
  • Data systems, reporting, and next‑generation technologies
  • Financing sustainable AMR diagnostic capacity
  • Laboratory data informing stewardship programs

Track 3 — Pathogen Genomics & Molecular Epidemiology

Advancing pathogen genomics for outbreak detection, surveillance, and epidemic intelligence.
Scope areas include:
  • Genomic surveillance for early warning and preparedness
  • Bioinformatics infrastructure and analytics
  • Ethics, data governance, and sovereignty
  • Integration of genomics into routine diagnostics
  • Sustainable genomic surveillance financing

Track 4 — Sustainable Financing, Workforce & Leadership

Building resilient, country‑owned diagnostic systems through financing, leadership, and professionalization.
Scope areas include:
  • Country‑led financing and transition strategies
  • Market shaping and procurement
  • Regional manufacturing ecosystems
  • Leadership and governance models
  • Workforce professionalization and digital learning

Track 5 — Artificial Intelligence, Digital Health & Data Systems

Digital transformation of diagnostics using AI, interoperable systems, and analytics.
Scope areas include:
  • AI applications in diagnostics
  • LIS/LIMS interoperability
  • Digital pathology and telepathology
  • Data governance, cybersecurity, and ethics
  • Predictive analytics for outbreak detection

Track 6 — Strategic Partnerships, Community Engagement & Trust

Strengthening people‑centered and partnership‑driven diagnostic ecosystems.
Scope areas include:
  • Public–private partnerships
  • Industry and innovation collaborations
  • Community engagement and trust‑building
  • Media engagement and risk communication
  • Community‑based surveillance systems

Track 7 — Climate‑Resilient & Sustainable Laboratory Systems

Building environmentally responsible and climate‑resilient laboratory infrastructure.
Scope areas include:
  • Green and energy‑efficient laboratories
  • Sustainable waste and chemical management
  • Climate‑aware supply chains
  • Laboratory preparedness during climate shocks

 

  • Language: Abstracts may be submitted in English, French, or Portuguese
  • Submission method: Abstracts must be submitted electronically via the official submission portal
  • Originality: Abstracts must be original. Any prior presentation or publication must be declared and permissions confirmed.
  • Thematic alignment: One primary thematic track must be selected.

 

 

  • Maximum abstract length: 350 words (excluding title, authors, and affiliations)
  • Structured format recommended, including:
    • Background – context, rationale, objectives
    • Methods – study design, population, tools, analysis
    • Results – key findings
    • Conclusion – implications and next steps
Required elements:
  • Presentation title
  • Presenter details (name, email, contact number)
  • Author(s) and affiliation(s)

 

  • Research involving humans or animals must indicate ethical clearance (IRB number or “N/A”).
  • Authors retain full copyright of their work.
  • By submitting an abstract, authors grant ASLM a non‑exclusive, royalty‑free license to:
    • Publish in conference proceedings
    • Display on the ASLM 2026 website
    • Use for conference promotional and educational purposes
  • The submitting author confirms that all co‑authors have provided consent.

 

  • Abstracts will be peer‑reviewed by 2–3 subject‑matter experts coordinated by the Scientific Committee.
  • Review criteria include:
    • Originality and innovation
    • Relevance to conference theme
    • Scientific rigor and methodology
    • Clarity and quality of writing
Accepted abstracts may be selected for:
  • Oral presentations
  • Poster presentations
All accepted abstracts will be included in the ASLM 2026 Abstract Book.
  • Abstract submission opens: 1 May 2026
  • Abstract submission deadline: 30 June 2026 (note: align with Scientific Committee decision)
  • Notification of acceptance: 30 August 2026
